# Midas FEA Analysis Manual
## Scope
This source is the analysis and algorithm manual for midas FEA, a civil and bridge-oriented nonlinear detail analysis program from MIDAS Information Technology. The raw source covers element formulations, material models, general algorithms, linear analysis procedures, construction stage analysis, heat transfer and hydration, contact, fatigue, and CFD.
The manual is useful in this vault because it adds a second production-solver reference beside the Abaqus manuals. Abaqus pages describe a broad general-purpose FE platform; the Midas manual emphasizes civil structural nonlinear analysis, concrete cracking, construction stages, hydration heat, static contact, fatigue checks, and wind-related CFD.
Midas Civil Analysis Reference is the sibling MIDAS product reference for bridge/civil member analysis, seismic procedures, staged construction, prestress, moving loads, and civil design utilities. Midas NFX Analysis Manual is the sibling MIDAS reference for general-purpose structural, field, contact, fatigue, optimization, and forming-limit analysis workflows.

## Extracted Threads
- Midas FEA Analysis Workflow - how the manual packages modeling, solver choice, analysis procedure, and result interpretation.
- Midas FEA Element Library - truss, beam, plane stress, plate, plane strain, axisymmetric, solid, spring, rigid link, and geometric-nonlinearity element coverage.
- Midas FEA Embedded Reinforcement Modeling - rebar bar and grid reinforcement embedded in continuum or plate host elements, including prestress context.
- Midas FEA Interface Elements and Nonlinearities - point, line, and surface interfaces plus crack, bond-slip, friction, and masonry-joint nonlinearities.
- Midas FEA Concrete Cracking and Material Models - plasticity, total strain crack models, concrete tension/compression behavior, and interface material laws.
- Midas FEA Nonlinear Solution Algorithms - boundary/load handling, equation solvers, Newton variants, arc-length iteration, and convergence checks.
- Midas FEA Linear Dynamics and Buckling Analyses - static, modal, time history, response spectrum, and eigenvalue buckling workflows.
- Midas FEA Construction Stage Analysis - activation/deactivation, concrete age, creep, shrinkage, and stage-wise load/state transfer.
- Midas FEA Heat Transfer and Hydration Analysis - heat transfer, hydration heat, equivalent age, thermal stress, and crack ratio output.
- Midas FEA Static Contact Analysis - penalty contact, contact search, master/slave choice, weld contact, and general contact.
- Midas FEA Fatigue Analysis - stress-life fatigue, rainflow counting, mean stress correction, and Miner damage.
- Midas FEA CFD Analysis - 2D structured-grid RANS CFD for wind-load and aerodynamic coefficient workflows.
## Solver Development Value
For custom solver development, the manual is most valuable as a reference for production-level feature boundaries. It shows which choices must be made explicit in requirements and tests: element family, nonlinear material law, boundary/load conversion, direct versus iterative solver selection, convergence criteria, modal/eigen extraction, construction stage state transfer, contact search, and result quantities.
## Connections
- Finite Element Method gives the shared discretization base.
- Finite Element Program Implementation frames the input, assembly, solve, recovery, and output contract.
- Nonlinear Finite Element Analysis gives the common incremental solution context.
- Finite Element Plasticity, Plasticity Yield Criteria, and Plastic Flow Rules and Hardening connect to the manual's plastic material model descriptions.
- Finite Element Contact Formulation connects to Midas contact and interface behavior.
- Finite Element Heat Transfer and Field Problems and Finite Element Thermal Stress Analysis connect to the thermal and hydration workflows.
- Midas Civil Analysis Reference connects the same MIDAS ecosystem to bridge-oriented structural analysis and design workflows.
- Midas NFX Analysis Manual connects the same MIDAS ecosystem to broader general-purpose FE solver-kernel workflows.
